PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to rigorously assess the methodological quality of published clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) related to nutrition among colorectal cancer patients, to compile consensus recommendations, and to evaluate the quality of the included CPGs. METHODS: The systematic search covered eight electronic databases, two relevant professional association websites, and six guideline websites from their inception up to January 22, 2023. The methodological quality of the eligible guidelines was evaluated using the Appraisal of Guidelines Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) instrument, and then, consensus recommendations were synthesized. The scores for each domain were expressed as the mean ± standard deviation (SD). Using the mean score as the benchmark for comparison, they were subsequently ranked from highest to lowest. The included guidelines were then categorized as having "high," "moderate," or "low" quality based on their scores. RESULTS: The literature search yielded ten guidelines. The findings indicated that the "Clarity of presentation" domain had the highest mean score (65.2 ± 7.7). This demonstrates how the guidelines effectively articulate recommendations. Additionally, the "Scope and purpose" domain achieved a mean score of 60.7 ± 10.9, followed by "Rigor of development" (51.7 ± 15.7), "Editorial independence" (51.1 ± 21), "Stakeholder involvement" (48 ± 16.8), and "Applicability" domains (47.5 ± 17.3). Two CPGs received an overall rating of "high quality" and were recommended; four CPGs received an overall rating of "moderate" and were recommended with modifications; and four CPGs received an overall rating of "low quality" and were not recommended. Furthermore, this study compiled twenty consensus recommendations related to nine distinct clinical issues. CONCLUSION: This study identified disparities in the methodological quality of the included CPGs, particularly in the "Applicability" domain, thus emphasizing the need for advancement in clinical feasibility and implementation. Notably, there is few guidelines specifically targeting colorectal cancer nutrition. These synthesized findings provided an intuitive, convenient, and comprehensive reference for evaluating nutrition among colorectal cancer patients. When applying these results, users should make careful decisions based on their specific situations.

Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) have been widely employed globally over the past three years to control the rapid spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). These measures have imposed restrictions on urban residents' activities and significantly influenced sewage discharge characteristics within sewage network, particularly in densely populated cities in China. This study focused on the nodal flow diurnal patterns and sewage network operational risks before and after epidemic lockdown in Beijing from March to May in 2022. Nodal flow diurnal patterns on weekdays and weekends before and after NPIs were analyzed using measured data through statistical and mathematical methods. A sewage network model was established to simulate and analyze the operational risks based on InfoWorks ICM before and after epidemic lockdown. The main conclusions were as follows: (1) In predominantly residential areas, the total wastewater volume increased by approximately 28.76 % to 33.52 % after the implementation of strict NPIs. The morning and midday "M" peaks on normalized weekdays transformed into "N" peaks, and the morning peak time was delayed by 0.5 to 1 hour after the lockdown; (2) Following NPIs, More than 90 % of manholes' average water levels rose to varying degrees, approximately 50 % of pipe lengths exhibited a full flow state; (3) When the lockdown was in place during a hot summer day, sewage overflow phenomena were observed in 4.6 % and 9.6 % of manholes, respectively, with per capita daily drainage equivalent reaching 40-50 %. These findings hold significant implications for the proactive planning and operational management of water industry infrastructure during major emergencies.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is caused by aberrant immune responses to the gut microbiota. Among the gut microbiota, adherent-invasive Escherichia Coli (AIEC) is thought to be the pathogen through invading the intestinal epithelial cells and causing inflammation. IL-17 secretion increase, induced by enhanced bacterial adhesion to the intestine epithelium, could on one hand protect the mucosa, but on the other hand, over amount of IL-17 initializes inflammation reactions that in turn damages the mucosa. The relationship between IL-17 and AIEC is still unclear. In this study, we tried to elucidate the function of IL-17 in AIEC-mediated colitis. Wild type (WT) and IL-17 knockout (IL-17 KO) mice were inoculated with AIEC strain E. coli LF82 and treated with dextran sodium sulphate (DSS). Histological examination of the colon was performed. Mucosa damage was assessed and scored. IL-22 and IL-17 in colon tissues were detected by ELISA, qPCR and immunohistochemistry methods. Transient AIEC colonization in IL-17 KO mice resulted in increased intestinal epithelial damage, systemic bacterial burden and mortality compared with WT controls. Moreover, IL-17 is required for the induction of IL-22 in the experimental animal models during AIEC strain E. coli LF82 colonization. These results indicate IL-17 plays a protective role in AIEC strain E. coli LF82 induced colitis by promoting IL-22 secretion.

Metastasis is the major dominant reason for poor prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after surgical treatment. However, the molecular mechanism of metastasis has not been well characterzied. Here, we report a novel function of Barx homeobox1 (Barx1) in inhibiting HCC invasion and metastasis. Barx1 expression is significantly decreased in human HCC tissues than in adjacent non-tumorous tissues and normal liver tissues. Low Barx1 expression is correlated with higher tumor-nodule-metastasis stage and indicates poor prognosis. Down-regulation of Barx1 promotes HCC migration, invasion and metastasis, whereas up-regulation of Barx1 inhibits HCC migration, invasion and metastasis. Mannosyl (alpha-1,6-)-glycoprotein beta-1,6-N-acetyl-glucosaminyltransferase 5 (MGAT5) and matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP9) are direct target genes of Barx1. Knockdown of Barx1 up-regulates MGAT5 and MMP9 expression in HCC cells with low metastatic capability, whereas over-expression of Barx1 suppresses their expression in HCC cells with high metastatic capability. Knockdown of both MGAT5 and MMP9 significantly decreases the invasion and metastasis abilities induced by Barx1 knockdown. Barx1 expression is negatively correlated with MGAT5 and MMP9 expression in human HCC tissues. Patients with low expression of Barx1 and high expression of MGAT5 or MMP9 are associated with poorer prognosis. Thus, loss of Barx1 represents a prognostic biomarker in human HCC patients.
